卐 Sayagata 卐
A pattern of interlocking swastikas, called Manji in Japanese.
It is believed that the term is a contraction of sa-ayagata, a term designating a
'gossamer figured cloth pattern'.
It occurs in ancient India and did not come to Japan until the Tensho era (1573-92)
when Chinese fabrics were imported in large quantity,
It appears also on japanese Mon, in Buddhistic images, on sword furniture and Chinese trousses.
